Rodney King Found Dead at 47

Rodney King, the man at the center of the 1992 Los Angeles riots, was found dead at the bottom of a swimming pool by his fiance, Cynthia Kelley, this morning. He was pronounced dead at, just after, 6am.

In recent years, King had suffered from substance abuse issues, even doing a stint on Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew on MTV where he blamed the incident that led to the LA riots for his struggles.

According to reports, Rodney King’s fiancée is telling friends Rodney had been drinking all day Saturday and had smoked marijuana in the hours leading up to his death. She last saw him at 2:00 AM.

Kelley, next, found King at around 5:00 AM, after she woke up hearing him screaming in the backyard. Reports say she found King naked, banging on the glass, and she called out to him, “What’s wrong, Rodney?” Kelley is telling friends she then went to grab her phone when she heard a big splash. She then went to the backyard and discovered him in the bottom of the pool and called police.

Paramedics attempted to revive King, but were unsuccessful.

In 1991, Rodney King made headlines when a video surfaced, showing Los Angeles police brutally beating King into submission, after he was stopped for speeding and reckless driving. The officers, who were Causcasian, were acquitted, resulting in an enormous 6 day riot among Los Angeles’s African American citizens.

No other details on King’s death have been made available, at this time. Below, is the video of Rodney King and the police officers that made him famous.
